How to DETOX

Detoxification or detox is a popular word used in recent times and we have been made to believe that following a specific diet or using special products will help rid the body of toxins, thereby improving health and promoting weight loss.

However your body is well-equipped to eliminate toxins and doesn’t require special diets or expensive supplements to do so.

You can enhance your body’s natural detoxification system and it will heal itself if you give it the right conditions.

What is Detoxification?

Detoxification or detoxication (detox for short) is the removal of toxic substances from a living organism, i.e the human body

The main organ responsible for detoxification in the body is the liver.

How to detoxify the body

Water

Water does so much more than quench your thirst. It regulates your body temperature, lubricates joints, aids digestion and nutrient absorption, and detoxifies your body by removing waste products.

Water transports waste products, efficiently by removing them through urination, breathing, or sweating. Staying properly hydrated is important for detoxification.

In addition to its many roles you can spa your water with these fruits and vegetables.

How to SPA your water for Detox

1. Wash all ingredients thoroughly with salt or vinegar

2. Rinse in plain water

3. Chop then into preferred sizes and put in jar with 1L of water

4. Allow to sit for at least 3 hours.

Remove ingredients as they could get slimy if kept for long

5. Drink

6. Can be stored in fridge for maximum of 48hours and 12 hours at room temperature

Ways to rejuvenate the body’s detoxification system.

1.Avoid Alcohol

The liver is responsible for detox Drinking too much alcohol reduces your liver’s ability to carry out its normal functions, such as detoxifying.

2. Sleep

Adequate sleep allows your brain to reorganize, recharge, and eliminate toxins that accumulate throughout the day.

3. Avoid Intake of Sugar and Processed Foods

Excess junk food consumption is linked to chronic diseases like obesity and diabetes. These conditions can cause harm to organs important to detoxifying, such as your liver and kidneys.

4. Eat Antioxidant-Rich Foods

Consuming a diet rich in antioxidants helps your body reduce damage caused by free radicals and may lower your risk of diseases that can impact detoxification. Berries, fruits, nuts, cocoa, vegetables, spices, and beverages like green tea have some of the highest amounts of antioxidants

5. Eat Foods High in Prebiotic

Eating foods rich in prebiotics can keep your immune and detoxification systems healthy. Good food sources of prebiotics include tomatoes, artichokes, bananas, asparagus, onions, garlic, and oats

6. Decrease Salt Intake

Consuming too much salt can increase water retention. Increasing your intake of potassium-rich foods — which counterbalances some of sodium’s effects — also helps. Foods rich in potassium include potatoes, squash, kidney beans, bananas, and spinach

Summary

You can enhance your body’s natural detoxification system and improve your overall health by staying hydrated, consuming less salt, getting active, and following an antioxidant-rich diet.
