Mother nature has bestowed upon us with a spectrum of foods that work as medicine and act as a natural painkiller with little to no side effects. For relief from pain in various parts of your body, here are some of the painkillers in your kitchen which will not just relieve you but also prevent harmful chemicals from clinging to your internal organs and deteriorating them.



Turmeric The ingredient that gives turmeric its yellow colour is spice curcumin. It has anti-inflammatory properties that are comparable to over-the-counter antibiotics medicines available. It is effective in alleviating joint and muscular pain and swelling. Can be added to tea or milk





Ginger The powerful anti-inflammatory properties of ginger assist in lessening arthritis pain, cramps and muscle soreness. Gently apply the ginger pack on the region of pain for instant relief. Ginger gives instant relief from muscle cramps and pain associated with periods. Eating ginger relaxes and soothe muscles.Chew on some ginger for instant relief from gas. Studies suggest that sipping on ginger provide relief from migraines. It is also a good combat agent in case of upper respiratory tract infections and is known to work wonders on coughs, sore throats and bronchitis.



Clove The essence of eugenol in clove works as a natural pain reliever and soothe headache, arthritis and toothache. Apply clove oil or place the whole clove on the affected area for 5-10 minutes. Nothing works better than clove if you are battling toothache. Bite a clove or apply clove oil on the gums or affected area to seek immediate relief. Additionally, this spice can help alleviate pain and reduce any swelling. Slightly warm some clove oil and gently massage it on the affected area several times a day.

One bowl of yoghurt twice a day helps aid digestion and provides relief from abdominal pain and menstrual cramps.





Black coffee Coffee can help modulate and reduce pain due to its action on the adenosine receptors in our brain which play a role in pain perception. Certain chemicals in coffee will bind to and block the adenosine receptors which can have a pain-relieving affect. Coffee also stimulates the release of dopamine and beta-endorphins which are neurotransmitters that act as a natural pain killer in the body.
