Wellness

Updated: Feb 14, 2019

Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life.

According to World Health Organization, wellness is defined as ...a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."

Our well-being directly affects our actions and emotions. Therefore, it is important for everyone to achieve optimal wellness in order to avoid stress, reduce the risk of illness and ensure positive interactions.

There are 8 Dimensions of wellness;

1.Emotional wellness which deals with understanding your feelings and coping effectively with stress.

2. Environmental wellness inspires us to live a lifestyle that helps us protect our environment by consciously creating awareness.

3. Financial Wellness involves the process of learning how to successfully manage financial expenses.

4. Intellectual wellness includes having an open mind when you encounter new ideas and acquiring adequate knowledge to expand the idea

5. Occupational wellness involves enjoying your occupational endeavors and its achievement.

6. Physical wellness relates to maintaining a healthy body and seeking care when needed.

7. Social wellness allows you to develop encouraging relationships with family, peers, superiors, subordinates as well as intimate relationships.

8. Spiritual wellness allows you to know which resources to use to cope with issues that come up in everyday life.

Wellness is a way for us to actively work toward better health. A way to take control of our bodies and minds. You may not be in “perfect” health now but a conscious effort to improve your wellness can cause a change that will ultimately reduce your chances of illness and decrease the cost spent on health care.
